Sovalo is a bit out of the way from most Old City bars/clubs/theaters/attractions, but it’s definately worth the walk/taxi/drive; it’s five minute walk from the Spring Garden street subway stop, there’s ample street parking, and it’s just as far from the Old City galleries as it would be to walk to South Street. Speaking of which, Sovalo is one of my favorite places to go on first fridays . Sovalo has great ambiance, with dark chocolate walls that really make one feel warm. The food itself is excellent; the menu is imaginative and changes seasonally. Portion size is perfect, which is unsual in Philadelphia. Although not advertised in the menu, it is possible to order any of their pasta dishes in a half-portion as an appetizer. I highly recommend this, as all of the pastas are excellent. Your hardest decision will be in deciding what to order, as all of their options always sound inticing, interesting, and unusual.
