On the Northeast corner of 20th and Market you will find a small lunch cart manned by a fellow many have grown to affectionately call the “Falafel Nazi.” Don’t expect to find a menu at this “mobile restaurant;” the menu changes every day. You will be served whatever was predetermined for you on that day. There are only two options: a $10 sandwitch usually consisting of falafel, grilled chicken, and assorted sauces, spreads, fillings, and salads in a pita. The second option is a $15 platter that contains all of the same with a pita on top. Are these prices meant to extort the affluent businessmen that hungrily descend from their glass towers every day during their lunch break in this area of the city? Yes. Is it worth the price? Yes. Is it worth the possible 30 minute wait in line? Yes. Where else in the city can you find a charcoal grill inside a lunch cart? The sandwitches almost always include grilled chicken and some sort of fish, like tuna. The sauces and salads are amazing, and the portions are huge. Just keep in mind that the cart does not sell drinks. Also, I am told that everything can be made vegetarian, but I’ve always been afraid to ask (I am not a vegetarian). I’ve also had vegetarian friends refuse to eat there because the same utencils are used between the vegetarian items and the non-vegetarian items.
